Summer party at Poundbury proves a resounding success….

Independent developer C G Fry & Son held an open event at Poundbury which attracted nearly 30 guests.  The purpose of the summer event was to invite people to register their interest for the exciting new phase in the North East Quadrant.

The Poundbury team decorated the sales office with bunting to give it a summery feel, serving guests with jugs of Pimm’s and fresh strawberries.  The event was organised in conjunction with Poundbury and Dorchester offices of Symonds & Sampson Estate Agents.

C G Fry & Son has been working with the Duchy of Cornwall on the prestigious Poundbury project since 1993.  Much of the North Eastern Quadrant is based on the urban character and green open spaces key to Poundbury.  Streets and pavement widths are a little wider, drawing inspiration from residential streets in central Dorchester as well as details using Dorset vernacular.

Caroline Hill, Head of Sales and Marketing C G Fry &Son says: “We had a number of new people who registered their interest to be first in line to be kept informed of the new forthcoming development.  In addition the event attracted existing Poundbury residents who really enjoyed meeting their new neighbours.  It turned into quite a party and was great fun and well received by all the guests.”

Nearing completion in area 2.22 of the South West Quadrant of the prestigious Poundbury, the impressive and elegant Corston House offers five special, luxurious apartments built in brick with authentic stone detailing.

C G Fry & Son’s major part in the building of more than 500 houses, as well as commercial properties, at the prestigious Poundbury development has created a global showcase for the company’s design and excellence of finish.   The South West Quadrant is a mixed use development of some 250 dwellings that draws closely on the handsome architecture of the late 18th and early 19th century in Dorchester and surrounding towns with particular care to detail door surrounds, eaves details, brickwork and metalwork.

The one three-bedroom, and four two-bedroom apartments provide a unique style of sophisticated living which will appeal to discerning homeowners as a main residence or second home.  With large windows and high ceilings, the elegant apartments each have individual features and double carports or carport plus parking space.   The stylish and contemporary kitchen design finished with granite worktops has built-in white goods.  Spanish Porcelanosa wall tiles adorn the ensuites and ceramic flooring is fitted in the larger apartments.  The ground floor two-bedroom residence with two ensuites and dressing areas has its own entrance and double doors open onto a good-size private walled garden.

Caroline Hill, Head of Sales & Marketing C G Fry & Son says: “This really is a very special building with stunning apartments offering the height of luxury.   The generous proportions and large windows creates a spacious, light and airy feel throughout and being located in prestigious Poundbury means they will attract very discerning purchasers.”

Independent Developer and New Home-Owners Raise Funds for ‘The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’

Family owned independent developer C G Fry & Son, renowned for their part in the prestigious Poundbury development with The Duchy of Cornwall, helped to raise over £400 for Macmillan Cancer Support as part of 'The World's Biggest Coffee Morning'.  The staff at the Dorchester-based Head Office together with colleagues from various sales offices around the South West region joined forces to help this worthy cause.

Local residents from the adjoining C G Fry development, Old Kelways at Huish Episcopi joined staff members to raise money with donations in the newly opened Show Home at Fern Green, Langport.  A large selection of delicious home-made cakes baked by residents, Elaine Cooper, Jane Prescott and the wife of David Pillinger, the development site manager was washed down with copious cups of coffee which helped to create a real community feel.

Also at the coffee morning was Sally Scribbins, the first resident to move into Fern Green and Mr and Mrs Small who will be moving in to their new Fry home in the very near future. They were interested to see how the show home was furnished and were happy to join in the fundraising spirit.

Award-winning Builder Introduces Green Schemes at New Development

In association with Wiltshire County Council, award-winning builder C G Fry & Son based in Dorchester is to introduce a new travel reimbursement scheme to reduce the reliance of residents on the use of the private car at Wyndham Place, their latest Wiltshire development based in Tisbury.

Wyndham Place a development of three and four-bedroom homes offers the  rare chance to acquire a new home in one of Wiltshire’s most appealing rural areas with good road and rail links to the A303 and A30 trunk roads. As part of the travel plan, the company is making finances available to install bike-racks around Tisbury and at the local railway station. Up to £800 is available to each household towards the costs of travel by means other than the private car.  This sum on offer is available to the first occupiers of each dwelling for one year from the date of occupancy with the first residents due to move into their new homes by this spring.

David Lohfink, Land and Planning Manager C G Fry & Son says: “We are working closely with the council on this innovative travel plan which will improve highway safety, encourage a healthier lifestyle and promote knowledge of non-car travel options. The alternative travel options we are putting in place, together with a cash incentive are to actively encourage members of each household to commute by means other than the private car. In addition, we are liaising closely with two local community groups who have plans to plant up a large parcel of land which will be gifted on a long-lease from Fonthill Estate to Tisbury Parish Council. The plans include planting a wildflower meadow, copse, orchard and community garden and C G Fry & Son is contributing a substantial proportion of funds to ensure this project comes to fruition.”

Independent Developer Wins Regional Award For Third Consecutive Year

Frys’ newest champion: Nathan Pyett and partner
Julia at the regional Pride in the Job awards at Bristol
Dorchester-based C G Fry & Son has for the third year running won a top industry regional award for the medium size house builder category for their site at Balidon Place, Yeovil.  Judges in the ‘Pride in the Job’ competition organised by the National House Building Council (NHBC) voted Fry’s building site manager Nathan Pyett as this year’s South West regional winner in the category for medium-sized building

The awards made from an initial pool of over 13,000 site managers across the UK chose Nathan as one of the top-performing site managers to receive a 2012 Pride in the Job award. A Pride in the Job award is the highest industry accolade a site manager can receive and all winners have excelled in 12 months of rigorous judging.  The Regional Award winners will continue within the competition to compete for the ultimate accolade - the Supreme Awards - to be announced in January 2013.

41 year-old Nathan, lives at Beaminster and has been with C G Fry & Son all his working life. He joined the firm as an apprentice carpenter at the age of 17 and progressed rapidly to become a site manager at the age of 21.  Nathan says: “I enjoy the whole process of overseeing a project through, from the very start to the end result.  I’m hugely proud of this award, but it is also recognition for the efforts of all my team.”

Nathan won the ‘Pride in the Job’ award for his work at the new high-quality development, Balidon Place in Yeovil.  A former Maternity Hospital, Balidon House is located on West Coker Road one of the premier areas within the town.  The stone façade of Balidon House has been taken down and re-used to form the façade of a brand new building full of character, but with the benefit of being up-to-date with current building standards.

C G Fry & Son is no stranger to awards and has an excellent reputation for producing a high-quality build.  The company has extensive experience in refurbishing and remodelling buildings of historical significance and the facade of the house has been painstakingly re-created using the original stonework. Balidon House will comprise of 12 spacious one and two bedroom apartments. Outside there will be communal gardens and parking.

Kevin Murch, Construction Director says: “This development is an exciting opportunity to restore and reinstate an important local building creating a quality new environment.  I am extremely pleased for Nathan and his team. The award sends out a clear message about the standards they are achieving. I am also delighted that this is the third year running that we have won the regional award - each time with different developments and site managers. It is always good to be publicly recognised with a prestigious award and it says something about the determination of everyone at the company who constantly strives to produce the very best in quality”.

An award-winning builder, C G Fry & Son is renowned for its extensive portfolio of high-quality projects ranging from private individual houses to major developments such as the prestigious Poundbury development in Dorchester for The Duchy of Cornwall.  And it’s a double celebration for the company in the 2012 ‘Pride in the Job’ awards with site manager, Steve Walker, receiving a Quality Award for his work at Poundbury.
