Leader Of East Devon District Council Officially Opens Withycombe House
Councillor Paul Diviani,
leader of East Devon District Council carried out an official ribbon cutting
ceremony to unveil the recently restored Withycombe House in St. John’s Road,
Exmouth. The magnificent period manor
house which in later years was converted to a school by Devon County Council, has
been painstakingly restored to its former glory by our skilled craftsmen and
converted to luxurious accommodation.
The spacious homes include two-bedroom apartments and three and four-bed
houses with generous gardens, set in a parkland setting.
An open weekend was held for locals and visitors to view the new homes
with a bespoke wine tasting and food matching experience by independent
specialist Jim Kingston of Topsham Wines.
This included Manzanilla Sherry accompanied by toasted almonds and fresh
olives; 1988 Colheita Port complemented by fruit cake; Ch. Crabitan
Bellevue-desert wine matched with Duck liver pate and finally Negramaro Italian
Red served with a charcuterie board. The
event was held in Plot 2 Withycombe House, a magnificent three-bedroom west
facing period home boasting beautifully presented spacious accommodation, a
superb drawing room and fabulous kitchen.
It was a unique opportunity for locals and visitors alike to view the
Gothic-style villa built c. 1850 which was Grade II listed in 1949 and retains many
unique architectural features.
The majestic house occupies a lovely sylvan setting amidst unspoilt woodland
and parkland setting in a delightfully secluded location not far from the East
Devon coast and the centre of this popular estuary town. Withycombe House offers a rare opportunity to
live in quality, well designed homes with real character and all the
convenience of being in town with local amenities and close to the coast.
Councillor
Paul Diviani, leader of East Devon District Council, said: “It was a pleasure to be part of the ribbon cutting ceremony and see
first-hand the quality of workmanship undertaken to restore Withycombe House.
Family owned independent developer C G Fry has shown us once again how
they use their extensive experience in listed buildings by taking a landmark building
and restoring it to its former glory to create high quality and bespoke homes
with the surrounding area. We have worked with C G Fry in the past, most
recently they developed the Devon and Cornwall scheme at Holmdale, Sidmouth, a
site that was owned by the council.”
